Community Art Project
Schenectady & Me
In 2017, a group of art lovers and Schenectady, NY lovers (called Schenectady Creative Arts Network or SCAN) got together to create a community-based art endeavor to help bring neighborhoods together and lay the groundwork for permanent, outdoor, public sculptures in our city. All across the city, they sponsored art-making events, asking community members to answer the question,
“What does Schenectady mean to me?”
With supplies funded by The Arts Center of the Capital Region, this project resulted in nearly 1,000 collages being created by neighborhood residents of their favorite locations, events or aspects of the Electric City. These collages turned into outdoor tiles to decorate benches made of steel and concrete, like the one located in front of City Hall on Jay Street. More installations are in the works! Schenectady & Me has partnered with SilverGraphics Art Fundraising, a local woman-owned business, to open an Online Art Shop featuring these art collages. You can scroll through this inspiring artwork and place an order to benefit Schenectady & Me. Select any of the art and have it printed on a stretched canvas, ceramic tile, ornament, cutting board, or any of the 50+ available products. Be Schenectady proud!
